Affiliate marketing and MLM are often considered a game of numbers. The more people you enroll, the more money you will make. With a few exceptions, this only works in theory.

The reality of business is that most people fail. Therefore, it stands to reason that most of the people that we enroll in our downlines will not achieve success. That means that most of our efforts have been wasted, if we are involved in any decent affiliate marketing or MLM program. The people that we enroll will not stay in the program if they don’t experience success.

Naturally, there is a way to fix the situation and improve our business. By understanding that this is not purely a numbers game, that these are real people who want to achieve success and make money with this business, by understanding that if we follow certain guidelines, we can create a strong, healthy and productive downline. And a downline that will stay and grow.

The recipe for success hides in the relationship between you and your downline. It’s not the product and it’s not the program, it’s the people that matter.

Follow these guidelines and you will build a strong and profitable downline:

1. Know your program

You have to know the in’s and out’s of important aspects of the program. This knowledge will be crucial as you direct your downline to the path of success.

2. Let them know you care

Your downline must know that you have a strong and genuine interest in helping them succeed. This is a first step in keeping the affiliates in the program and building a relationship with them. If you are perceived as someone who only wants to take advantage of them, you have failed.

3. Share

Share your experience, your time, your insights about business and any free resources that your affiliates can use. The more you share, the more you will receive. Your downline will be more responsive and more engaged in the program, because they will appreciate your help and time invested. That leads us to point number four.

4. Be sincere

Once you’ve established a relationship with your affiliates, you must preserve and grow that relationship. The biggest mistake would be to deceive them in some way regarding the program, yourself or anything else for that matter. Be honest and sincere in your communication with them and you will earn their trust. When your downline has trust in you, they will come to you with their questions and their needs, and they won’t hesitate to use something or buy something that they want or need, if they have your honest recommendation.

5. Be proactive and accessible

Contact your downline on a regular basis, providing them with tips and advice, offering your help and assistance if and when they need it. Also, be quick when answering their inquiries, as this will show them that they have your support.

6. Teach them to duplicate and expand their downline

The final important step is to teach your downline how to duplicate what you do and how you do it. If you can apply these things to your business, then you can teach them to do the same. This will ensure that your downline grows exponentially and continues to makes you money.

These are the components of a blueprint which, if you follow it, will help you build a strong and profitable downline. After all, it’s the people that matter. And people tend to duplicate something if it works. Show them that it can work by your own example and with your own results. After all, it’s you that matters.

Building MLM Downlines - is That Just Down to Me?

Building MLM Downlines and the whole area of MLM lead generation are not unfortunately areas you can dump on your upline - much as they have an interest in your MLM success. However, if you can get good at MLM lead generation, then your group becomes a highly attractive place for your upline to position their newly-sponsored distributors. Now, their MLM success is closely linked to building MLM downlines under you specifically.

I remember in the nineties that my MLM opportunity at the time encouraged us all to be building MLM downlines ‘wide’. This meant running our group with as many different ‘legs’ as we could manage. This could of course be very profitable and worked so long as some of those seeds germinated. What was often a barrier to lasting MLM success though was the fall-out rate. You may well remember that feeling of spinning plates! It’s a fact that many people seeking MLM success will drop out if they don’t see ‘results’ within a week or so. The ’something for nothing’ mindset survives all economic cycles, and these same people become the hysterical MLM detractors of the future. ‘I was in that thing and it didn’t work’. Ever heard that before?!

But let’s be honest if we don’t start building MLM downlines soon, all we have is a ‘club.’. Having a star upline team behind you is very important in that ‘multi-level’ or ‘network’ marketing claims rightly to be your own business though you’re never ‘on your own’. Find someone upline who’s upbeat, creating results, and is someone whom you can work with. It doesn’t have to be your sponsor. They might quit next week! You can enjoy a great deal of back up and support from the ’star team’ in your upline. Whilst that’s important though, all the moral support in the world won’t pay as well as active distributors in your downline. To accomplish that, you’ll want to generate MLM success ‘on autopilot’ with your own MLM lead generation campaign. Most importantly, you don’t need anyone in your upline to make this happen.

These days there are a shed load of resources out there to help you find online MLM success, and it’s up to you and your ambition level to study the MLM lead generation methodology. If you’re blessed with an enlightened upline, they will support your ambitious online efforts, and will gratefully accept advice in some areas where you may have the technical edge. In this respect, building MLM downlines can become more of a collaboration of equals rather than the ‘this is how we always do it’ mindset which has lead to MLM’s ‘cult’ label in the eyes of many on the outside.

In the past, our upline has been the main fount of knowledge for us, and these days they are still a great support resource. Let’s not forget the golden rule of this industry, that of ‘building success on the success of others.’ But if our upline is not able to give advice on autoresponders, one time offers, funded proposals and traffic exchanges, does that mean those avenues are closed to us? Far from it. In this ‘new world’ of online MLM lead generation, we have complete freedom to chase MLM success using modern technology.

So is building MLM downlines something we’re stuck with battling away at unaided? No. Put yourself in your upline’s position for a moment. Someone in your group, perhaps several levels down, has ’struck oil’ with an online MLM lead generation system that is pouring distributors in on autopilot. You are sponsoring people too but are aware that new distributors can fall away quickly. Now that most companies agree that lasting MLM success is better achieved by building three or four ‘deep legs’ than twenty or so shallow ones, where would be the best part of your group to place those new people? Exactly! Under that distributor way down in your group that can’t stop sponsoring people!

There’s more. If you learn an MLM lead generation system, build your own list that’s yours and not your company’s, and have several of your upline routinely placing new distributors under you to catch the ‘wave’ of your MLM success online, then you have an endless stream of prospects who would be very hot for all the online business tools that you’ve been using for building MLM downlines in the first place. You can eaarn affiliate commissions on all those sales. Everyone wants what works. You’ll be what works. You’ll be the star of your star team!

So by building MLM downlines that are productive, by capturing the contact details of twenty business builders who don’t want your opportunity for every one that does, and by building your MLM success with an online MLM lead genearation system that works on autopilot, you’ll be amazed at how attractive you become to your upline. Multilevel marketing secrets to create a solid downline are about developing the right relationships. One of the best kept multilevel marketing secrets is right under your nose hiding as a “Golden rule”. You know, those golden rules your family taught you growing up.

Treat others the way you want to be treated. If the only thing your downline represents to you is more money, then you will not be exploding your downline very soon. You will end up having a lot of distributors under you that wish they had someone else as a sponsor. Most will lose any motivation they once had and start looking around for a better deal.

Most highly successful MLM distributors with solid downlines won’t tell you they are great motivators, they are skilled coaches or mentors. They won’t be shouting they are there for everyone of their distributors or that they can be counted on for support 24/7. They won’t tell you, but their downline sure will!

You can have all the leads coming in you could ever ask for, yet if you do not have a personal value, a relationship to offer them, these leads will have no lasting value to you. Cultivating and nurturing a downline requires you to cultivate the right winning attitude and experience with treating people with respect.

In the beginning, you will have to pay the dues. Creating success in your own MLM business is one of the multilevel marketing secrets. The steps you take to be of value to your downline is learning the products and what everyone of them does and where the market for your products are.

Another multilevel marketing secret is understanding the company’s multilevel compensation plan, inside and out. Make sure your downline understands this company plan. Don’t be afraid to bring up it’s weak points to them. Get everything out in the open and your downline will respect you for your upfront honesty.

Becoming the coach and mentor is another multilevel marketing secret. Become an expert. Know it all. You want your downline to come to you when they need answers. If you don’t know the answers, tell them you will find out, then do it. Essentially, you are a role model for your distributors, they will be taking their cues on how to be successful from you.

Work with them, commiserate with them and share your success and failures with them, so they can learn from you. When you can truly uplift them, then you are coaching and mentoring your downline. If you are not able to walk your talk, they will pick this up from you too soon.

Multilevel marketing secrets are meant to share. Learn all of the methods you can for generating good leads. Know these methods and what makes them work. Use them yourself to generate your leads, then teach your downline how to use them. Your success is not keeping secrets, it is about sharing your knowledge with your downline.

MLM Training: Generate MLM Leads With a Lazy Downline?

Are your kind offers of help to generate MLM leads and MLM training in general falling on deaf ears?

You know, having a lazy downline used to be the quickest route to grey hair and stomach complaints known to the MLM community. I remember taking some of the world’s least motivated MLM downline builders to hotel meetings and major functions. They used to duck behind a pillar after five minutes, petrified I’d introduce them to anyone successful.

Usually they were outside (in all weathers) with the smokers, even those that didn’t smoke. Obviously they preferred the atmosphere of stale tobacco to the sound of motivated and committed upline telling them they could be successful!

But a lot has changed since then. For one thing, MLM training is not so dominated by huge get-togethers, with a sizeable ‘cajoled’ contingent. Some of the world’s biggest MLM downline builders generate MLM leads online in such numbers that it is this type of MLM training that is in higher demand rather than tips on how to successfully hand out a DVD to ‘Nigel from Accounts’.

Another past problem with lazy downline members was the fact that their laziness would duplicate downwards. So as we tried to create an ‘on-message’ group of enthusiastic MLM downline builders under these individuals, the apathy would dilute anything we said to them. As the new people would be friends of our lazy downline, our positive influence would be drastically diluted.

It seems crazy today that some of us allowed lazy downline members to sap our enthusiasm to such an extent. Maybe you remember that feeling of leaving a large gathering full of revved and motivated distributors and thinking ‘I wish my own group had even one percent of that’.

Yes, in the old days, trying to crowbar MLM training tools into the hands of our lazy downline wasted so much time, it wasn’t even funny. I was expecting people to generate MLM leads when it wasn’t even certain they were generating a pulse.

Another thing lazy downline members would never dream of doing was retailing products. Some would give me a look that would strip paint. The notion of actually doing something was the element of the MLM training that met with the most dogged resistance!

Any attempts by me to generate MLM leads ‘under’ my lazy downline where also sabotaged. Maybe they were supreme MLM downline builders ‘in the rough’. But there’s rough and rough, isn’t there. It was all so much hard work for which there was no reward. I’m getting welled up here!

But these days lazy downline members are not going to hasten our ageing process and make us question what on earth made us think we could ever be succesful MLM downline builders. Even more than that, they can be precisely the kind of distributors we do want on board! Eh?

It’s true. It’s not an uncommon human failing to want the rewards of a large independent income stream such as the big-hitting MLM downline builders enjoy whilst doing next to nothing to attain it. In days gone by we’d say something trite to them like ‘the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.’

But now, it is possible to generate MLM leads, leveraging off a lazy downline, giving you and them exactly what they want. Sure it might cost them a little of their cash, but for a lazy downline the idea of having negligible work to do and zero rejection to face is very seductive. Why not give them that? They may become ambitious over time. but their unwillingness to ‘buy in’ on faith at the outset no longer means there’s no role for the lazy in your success. Bring them in!

They may never generate MLM leads for themselves and never really become MLM downline builders, but contrary to what outdated MLM training would have us believe in the past, a lazy downline can contribute hugely to your success and let’s face it, that opens up one enormous market!
